As the nights draw in, we need a good reason to venture outside for dates. That reason is hot chocolate, and London has some of the best, most romantic venues for slurping melted cocoa...

SAID DAL 1923, W1

With its roots in the oldest chocolate factory in Rome, Said dal 1923 is as decadent a homage to old school hot chocolate as they come. Try the cioccolata densa, a thick Italian chocolate that comes in milk, dark or hazelnut praline. 41 Broadwick Street, WIF 9QL.

ROCOCO CHOCOLATES, SW1

Wrap up warm and sip decadent sea salted or spiced hot chocolate in the secluded Moroccan garden of this indulgent gorge fest of a bakery. There’s mountains of cake and indoor seating too at Rococo Chocolates Belgravia, 5 Motcomb Street, SW1X 8JU. There are also branches in Chelsea, Covent Garden and Marylebone.

GODIVA, SW1

Its name alone gives Café Godiva a romantic edge. Add that to the fact that the Belgian chocolatier occupies a café on the second floor of Harrods and you’ve got a dream date venue. As well as a calorie fest of crepes, fondues, fondants and pastries, there are two hot chocolate options to choose from: one offering layers of warm chocolate ganache with steamed milk and foam, the other, shots of rich milk, white or dark melted chocolate. Heaven on earth. Harrods, 87-135 Brompton Road, SW1X 7XL.
